12/02/14 Taiwan's International Airports


Taiwan has four international airports now.
1.      Taipei Songshan International Airport
2.      Taoyuan International Airport (old name was CKS International Airport)
3.      Taichung Ching-Chuang-Kang International Airport
4.      Kaohsiung Siaogang International Airport

Initially, only Taoyuan and Kaohsiung had international airline. Latest Taiwan government created another two international airline for mid Taiwan and capital.
Taipei Airport locates at Songshan district in Taipei City which is Taiwan’s capital. There are 13 international airline companies. Most of them fly to mainland China and Japan, and these are entire international airlines of Taipei Airport. Hubs (樞紐航空公司) are Mandarin Airlines, Transasia Airways, Far Eastern Air Transport, UNI Air. The lines which linked to of Taipei Metro Rapid Transit are Wenshan-Neihu Line and Songshan line (Building).
Taoyuan Airports locates at Dayuan Village in Taoyuan County. Hubs are China Airlines, EVA Air, Transasia Airways. This is the largest airport in Taiwan. It also has the most international airlines of the airports above. National Highway 2 ends here and intersects with National Highway 1. Taipei Metro Rapid Transit has built a line from Taipei City to Taoyuan Airport. Traveler can transfer to MRT to Taipei in the future.
Taichung Airport locates at Shalu district in Taichung City. It’s the only international airport in mid Taiwan area. Hub is Mandarin Airlines. There are 10 international airline companies. Majority is mainland China. Others are Philippine, Japan, and South Korea. Connection to Taichung Airport is not convenient now. Taichung City government had planed one MRT line to link it.
Kaohsiung Airport locates at Siaogang district in Kaohsiung. It’s also the only international airport in south Taiwan area. There are 15 international airline companies. Most fly to mainland China. Others are Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Kaohsiung City has Kaohsiung Metro Rapid Transit system. The red line (south-north line) ends at airport.
